Tourism-promoting business group goes from strength to strength

A 60-strong business group that has worked hard to capitalise on Helmsley's magnetic appeal, is celebrating a successful 12 months with a new committee and six new members.

Helmsley .. continues to draw tourists. A great place to live and work, too.

Helmsley in Business, set up four years ago, has promoted the Ryedale town as a special place to live, work and visit.

The group led the town to a victory in the Great British High Street Awards at the end of 2015, and is this year supporting the Department for Communities and Local Government by hosting filming this month to encourage entries for 2016.

The town has been a strong supporter of Small Business Saturday and on 2 November serves as a stop on the National Tour of Small Businesses, which the group says is a coup as it will be the first place to be recognised in the Ryedale and North York Moors area. Other recent successes include a new website for the town and the launch of a walking app created in partnership with iFootpath. The app allows walkers to download routes and explore the beautiful area surrounding Helmsley.

COLLABORATION
Carolyn Frank, the group's new chair and owner of Libby Butler Jewellers, said: “I am particularly happy and excited to see new businesses joining this special organisation. What’s more they haven’t wasted any time in getting stuck in and working in collaboration, which is what we’re all about.

“We are so passionate about the town and it’s incredible to see Helmsley going from strength to strength. We know that the town is a great place to live, work and visit and the businesses based here each add something invaluable to that experience."

After a successful revamp of the town’s Christmas lights, last year, the committee plans to improve the display, by strengthening their work with local authorities and a new angel festival, this year.
