Showhome gives a taste of Helmsley life

A showhouse at Helmsley's Black Swan Yard now gives potential buyers a taste of what it's like living in the Ryedale town.

The 17-home luxury housing scheme holds an open weekend this Saturday and Sunday (20-21 August). The fully-furnished, stone-built show house has three en-suite bedrooms and is priced at £425,000.

Toby Cockcroft, director of Croft Residential, the agency which is marketing the development, said: “New homes of this calibre are a true rarity in Helmsley so it’s not surprising that we have had a great deal of interest in this development, literally from all over the world, and five of the houses have already been sold off plan.”

He added: “The show house will give people a realistic idea of what the finished homes will be like, which sometimes can be difficult to visualise from plans and artist’s impressions. Needless to say I think potential buyers will be very impressed as these are really impressive houses, built to a very high specification.”

The development is on a site to the rear of the town’s renowned Black Swan Hotel. The scheme will include two and three-bedroomed, stone-built, cottage-style houses and set within a gated community and surrounded by landscaped gardens.

Prices range from £395,000 for a two-bedroomed house, to £495,000 for a barn conversion with three en suite bedrooms and parking for two cars.

Crowned ‘best market town high street in Britain’ in 2015, Helmsley has become a visitor honey pot in recent years, in part due to its location on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, but also as a result of its growing collection of art galleries and independent shops such as delicatessen Hunters of Helmsley, which was last year named Britain’s best small shop.
