Deli's delight at national recognition

The Hunters of Helmsley deli has earned national recognition for its commitment to sourcing and promoting regional delicacies.

Judges highly commended the store in the best independent retailer category of the Great British Food magazine awards.

The awards were established three years ago to recognise the work of the artisans behind the nation’s favourite food and drink.

As well as consistently providing quality produce Hunters also won favour for getting involved with exciting projects. The store is currently offering customers a taste of Rio with its Olympic Bauru Sandwich, a favourite in South America.

LEADING PANEL OF JUDGES
Judges linked to the awards included Rosemary Shrager, Richard Corrigan and Great British Bake Off winners Edd Kimber and John Whaite. Fellow award winners included none other than the nation’s favourite Mary Berry and The Hairy Bikers.

Christine Garnett who owns Hunters of Helmsley with husband Chris, said: “We are so pleased to have been honoured with such a prestigious award. We really do strive to provide our customers with items that are of the best quality and so being recognised for our work is both incredible and touching. Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to vote.

"We love what we do at Hunters and will continue to listen to our customers to bring them the best service and produce we possibly can.”

BLOWN AWAY
Natasha Lovell-Smith, editor of Great British Food Magazine and chair of the judging panel, said: “I was truly blown away with the quality of entries this year. Our judges had a very tough job having to choose the best from such a brilliant selection, but I’m delighted with the results.

"We had entries from producers of all sizes, from every corner of the UK, and the quality of food was just outstanding. Our judges are experts in their fields, and all of our winners, runners up and finalists should feel very proud indeed.”
