Scarborough gallery spotlights work of award-winning bird taxidermist

Eagle Owl by Carl Church.
The work of an award-winning bird taxidermist is in the spotlight at Scarborough Art Gallery next month.

Carl Church, who has won awards at the World Taxidermy Championship and  the UK’s Guild of Taxidermists, is running four demo days at the gallery on 7, 14, 21 and 28 August.

The events support the current exhibition, All Creatures…, which is running at the gallery until 25 September and for which curator and artist Mark Hearld has displayed specimens of taxidermy from the Scarborough Collections in new and imaginative ways.

Carl said: “My work not only shows breathtaking birds, but excellent composition, vibrant lifelike groundwork and an amazing all-over accuracy of detail.

“All the birds I use are legally and ethically obtained: around 60 per cent are road traffic deaths, 15 per cent are killed flying into windows, and the remaining 25 per cent are birds which have died in captivity.”

Booking at ticket costs details can be obtained by contacting the gallery on 01723 374753.
