First birthday gallery says Helmsley has its community welcome off to a fine art

Helmsley's inspirational community has helped art gallery, Lazenby Visuals go from strength to strength, according to its owner. And this Saturday (2 July), the gallery, based in the picturesque town's Walled Garden craft units, marks its first birthday with a packed programme

Feeling part of the community has helped Chris Lazenby's gallery
go from strength to strength in its firs tyear.

The programme includes appearances from local artists James McGairy from Guisborough and Bree Merryn from Skipton. James, who takes inspiration from the Moors, Dales and coast, has appeared as a contestant on Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist of the Year. Bree has a deep interest in drawing the beautiful rural surroundings of Yorkshire and specialises in figurative and animal art. Both artists will be in-store creating art in a live capacity - a rare treat for attendees!

Local singer David Swann will serenade visitors with his songs about the people, places and history of his native county as well as songs about love lost and found.

Owner Chris Lazenby is a local artist with a background in graphic design and architecture, Lazenby Visuals offers design services, bespoke picture framing and a gallery open to the public with exhibitions from local artists.

Chris said: “We have had a great first year, the shop has gone from strength to strength and we really feel part of the community. Helmsley is a great place to work, the beauty both inside and outside of the town provides endless inspiration and the talent we have here is second to none. We’re really looking forward to celebrating the arts and our one-year anniversary and hope that many people will come along to join in the fun.”
