Orchestra raids the archives

Members of Scarborough Spa Orchestra have have been combing the hidden cellars and the attics of the venue looking for musical treasures.

The Spa holds 6,000 pieces, some of which go way back to the time when the orchestra was founded in 1912. In those days, complete symphonies and concertos were played even in the light-hearted morning concerts.

Musical director Paul Laidlaw, music librarian Stephen Walker and member Graham Quilter say they have found several gems which will be heard again through the summer season which starts with a morning concert on Monday 6 June 2016 and finishes with a grand finale concert on Thursday 8 September.

Paul has also been writing his own arrangements for the orchestra. The library already contains well over fifty of his arrangements, and for 2016, he promises selections from modern stage musicals and some exciting film themes.
