It's a little in-tents! Council comes up with wedding venue alternative

North Yorkshire County Council is launching a tipi and events business which, it hopes, will have a special appeal to couples wanting weddings with a difference.

Totem has been launched as part of the council's commercial operations to help fund vital services.

The council is running a spring wedding fair at County Hall in Northallerton on Saturday (30 April) from 11am to 3pm, where visitors will be able to see the tipis dressed for a vintage country wedding. Local wedding suppliers will also be at the event to showcase a range of products and amenities.

The tipis are used for youth arts events but the council says they are ideal as wedding party venues.

County council deputy leader councillor Gareth Dadd said: “Whether you want to create a summer celebration with the sides up, or fancy a winter wonderland with an open fire pit, indoor heaters and warm blankets, the tents can accommodate all ideas, seasons and tastes.”
