Land body picks a litter promotion

Members of the Country Land and Business Association regional team rolled up their sleeves to help launch the new Clean for the Queen promotion.

Bin there, got the T-shirt. The team makes
light work of the clean-up task.

With litter pickers and bin bags, they headed to Richmond to publicise the campaign, which calls on community groups, schools and businesses to help tidy up their local area ahead of The Queen’s 90th birthday.

Regional director Dorothy Fairburn: said: “This is a small way we can highlight the appalling amount of fly-tipping that takes place around our region."

The total number of fly-tipping incidents in England has risen by almost 50,000 to 900,000 according to figures from Defra.

According to the association, this is a fraction of the overall cost of clearing up as these figures don't include any incidents on private land, which farmers and landowners are legally obliged to clear and pay for themselves.

The association is calling on local authorities to be more proactive in dealing with the problem.
