Teas and tours serve up an historical head turner at Markenfield Hall

Tours and a teas – with hot-off-the-press historical insights – is the new combination to draw visitors to historic Markenfield Hall, on the outskirts of Ripon, on Friday afternoons during August.

Visitors will gain an insight into the latest research by The Friends of Markenfield Archive and Study Groups which has revealed previously unknown documents held by an American university that could re-write the hall’s history books.

Known as The Missing Years until the translation from medieval Latin has been completed, the discovery relates to the fate of the hall after its confiscation from the Markenfield family for treason following The Rising of the North in 1569.

It was previously thought that the hall was simply handed over to Queen Elizabeth’s chancellor, but the discovery of the original Elizabethan Letter Patent at the University of Berkley, California, has turned this assumption on its head.

Organisers say places are limited and recommend early booking. For further information, contact Sarah Robson on 01765 692303 or visit www.markenfield.com
