Requiem highlight for cathedral concert

Brahms' Requiem is the highlight of an inaugural summer evening concert by the Ripon Cathedral Consort on Saturday 6 July.

The work will feature local baritone, Cardiff Singer of the World finalist, and cathedral lay clerk D'Arcy Bleiker and soprano Lynne Dawson whose engagements have included singing at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Piano duet accompaniment will be provided by Anthea Shepherdson and Edmund Aldhouse, in his final concert at Ripon before he moves to Ely Cathedral in September.

The consort, formed in September, last year, comprises twelve teenage girls who sing with the lay clerks of the cathedral choir.

The inaugural concert is a joint venture with the Ripon Cathedral Choristers' Association, and also includes four motets by Anton Bruckner.

Tickets are available in advance from the cathedral gift shop, priced £10, or on the door for £12. Admission for accompanied under 16s is free, and post-concert refreshments are included in the ticket price.
