Leona confirmed for open air theatre

It just gets better! That's the verdict of Scarborough Open Air Theatre bosses after confirming that multi-platinum selling artist and three-time Grammy Award nominee Leona Lewis is to perform at the venue.

The concert on Friday 12 July will be one of two special live outdoor performances for the singer songwriter this summer, the other being at the Royal Botanic Gardens and forming part of Kew the Music 2013.

Leona is the third act to be announced for this summer’s line up at the venue after tickets went on sale last month for Status Quo who play on 27 July and McFly who have been lined up for 30 August.

Councillor David Chance, Scarborough Borough Council cabinet member for tourism and culture, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to secure Leona as our third act for the open air theatre, and being linked to her only other UK performance this summer at the magnificent Kew Gardens makes the announcement even more special.”

Janet Deacon, area director for Welcome to Yorkshire, the region's official tourism body, said: "What a fantastic announcement to start off the New Year!  Leona is a high calibre act with an international following and she adds yet another dimension to this summer’s entertainment programme at the theatre.”

Tickets go on sale in person at The Sands offices, Peasholm Gap, North Bay, Scarborough, from 8am on Monday 21 January giving local residents the opportunity to buy tickets before general sale release. Tickets will also be available from tourist information centres in Filey, Scarborough and Whitby.

Tickets will go on general sale from 10am, Monday 21 January on (0844 844 0444) and (0114 256 5567).
