Not telling porkies: we're sending the 'pigs' in, say water chiefs

Yorkshire Water bosses are sending the 'pigs' in to clean one of the oldest water pipes in Ripon.

The pigs — bullet shaped plastic tools used for cleaning out old and encrusted pipes — are being used to clean 4,000 metres of pipes which run under Limekiln Bank, Studley Road and through the fields to Hell Wath Lane.

Work began this week as part of a £600,000 cleaning project for the city which will mean improved water supplies for 2,300 households.
