North Yorkshire pays its respects

Ripon Remembrance Sunday story beautifulnorthyorkshire.com
The occasion was poignant for those who were able to attend.
There were tears and there were smiles. There were young folks and there were old.

Towns and cities across North Yorkshire paid their respects during Remembrance Sunday to those military personnel who had made the ultimate sacrifice.

BeautifulNorthYorkshire.com went to Ripon where the sun broke through the crisp autumn morning and cast its golden hues across Spa Gardens during the laying of wreaths and two-minute silence at the war memorial.

Thousands turned out to pay their respects in the city. Hundreds packed the Spa Gardens while many more lined Park Street and the market square ready for the march past by the Royal Engineers based at Claro Baracks.

They paid tribute to those who had fallen in conflicts across the globe and those who were risking their lives in current campaigns. A service was then held at the city cathedral.

It was particularly poignant for the many North Yorkshire towns and cities whose histories are entwined with military life.
