Georgian Theatre springs into action with bumper programme

Richmond's Georgian Theatre Royal has unveiled its spring programme under the direction of new chief executive Kate Longmate.

The programme from 4 February to 30 May features almost fifty individual and will also introduce the first ever season of matinees aimed at family audiences. On the second Saturday of each month, shows produced with children and young people in mind will take centre stage at the Georgian.

Family entertainment gets under way on 11 February with The Wind in the Willows featuring both puppetry and actors and performed by Riverside Productions.

Musical treats come in the form of Karen Matheson from the west coast of Scotland, the Sierra Maestra from Cuba, Stacey Earle and Mark Stuart from Nashville and back to Flora Thompson’s England for an evening with the Lark Rise Band.

Meanwhile, feminist icon Germaine Greer talks candidly during her Forty Years of Feminism and Fun on 20 April while, on 4 May, award-winning stand-up comedian of BBC Radio Four fame Mark Steelwill be in action.

The Georgian Theatre Royal Youth Theatre continues its tradition of incorporating thought provoking work by presenting Some Mother’s Son, Antigone, The Duchess of Malfi and Accrington Pals.

Kate Longmate said: “I am delighted to present the spring season here at the Georgian. We are a building with an immensely important and significant history, but we are also a living and breathing theatre, producing and receiving work.

"This spring. I am thrilled to introduce new companies such as Tongue Tied and Maison Foo to our stage alongside national and international legends such as Sierra Maestra and Germaine Greer.
